PACKING FOR DISTRIBUTION – “OVERSIZED TRANSPORT“

Packing for distribution is a complex process that requires full attention for several reasons. If the goods aren’t packed properly, they can be damaged in transportation, which can lead to multiple loss for the sender, end user and distributor through the insurance costs, additional expense for the refund of damaged goods and send replacement items, and of course an out-of-stock situation with retailers who are waiting this goods for further sale. The goods are usually packed in cardboard boxes, but depending on the volume they can be packed on pallets.

Cardboard packing

When packing in a box, it is important to keep in mind some important details:

  • The box size should be determined by content. Goods can be easily damaged in half-empty boxes, so they need to be additionally fixed by carton, foil or styrofoam. If the box is overcrowded, it may be damaged too, so optimal filling is imperative.
  • The weight of the package is very important too. When choosing a package, consider the strength and endurance of the box and the adhesive tape – to withstand the weight of the goods you plan to put in it.
  • Materials such as styrofoam, carton, sponge, adhesive foil and similar are used for coating or fixing the shipment.
  • All fluids should be packed in a sealed packaging and covered with a plastic bag to avoid (if leaking) the destruction of other dry objects.
  • Place “Arrow up”, “Fragile” or “Handle with care” on all sensitive packages
  • Fragile objects should be placed in the middle of the box and coated with protective layers
  • Small items should preferably be separated and packed in the envelope or bag when packed inside a larger package
  • Always use adhesive tape, preferably with your company logo printed on it.

Pallets packing

Packing of goods on pallets also has its own rules:

  • It is preferable to arrange the goods to fit the euro pallet dimensions (120 x 80 cm). Euro pallet must be sufficiently firm to withstand the weight of the goods and other manipulation in transport such as loading and unloading …
  • If the shipment consists boxes or items of unequal dimensions, large and medium boxes must be put on the bottom, so you can narrow the space at the top in order to form a pyramid shape. Of course, the harder boxes go to the bottom and lighter on the top.
  • Goods should not exceed the dimensions of the pallet because, in practice, that parts are most often damaged.
  • After arranging the goods on the pallet, it is necessary to wrap the stretch foil around the goods to prevent falling or damaging of goods when manipulating in transport.

This sounds complicated and demanding, but to us, this is a daily procedure because, according to the prescribed packing and distribution processes, this is a part of routine duties. Especially when it comes to consumer goods.

Oversized packing

But, what if you need to pack the goods that exceed some normal packing size? Like, for example, motorcycles, sensitive electronic items, windshields, mudguards or electric motors?
In such cases, standard rules don’t apply. It is necessary to observe each subject individually and accordingly access the packing.
As we are experienced company in packing and transportation of sensitive and expensive shipments, we suggest that you ask for our assistance in this cases, because the most expensive transport is the one that is damaged due to inappropriate packing.
